Dr. Wingfield is a primary care sports medicine specialist, board certified through the Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine. She practices at the Center for Sports Medicine in San Francisco and Corte Madera, California. Dr. Wingfield is a team physician for the Canadian Alpine Ski team, as well as for the University of San Francisco and Dominican University in San Raphael, CA. From 2005-2007 she traveled with the Canadian women's senior basketball team, and in 2003, she was the team physician for Canada to the World Aquatic Championships in Barcelona. In February, she will be working in the medical clinic at 2010 Olympics in Whistler, BC, providing care to athletes competing in the Games.
Herself no stranger to elite competition, Dr Wingfield was a gymnast on the Canadian national team 1983-1988. When an injury kept her from the 1988 Olympics, she switched sports into springboard diving, which she did at a national level through University. She put medical school on hold for 2 years to perform with Cirque du Soleil as an acrobat in "Mystere" in Las Vegas. She was continued performing throughout medical school and residency, returning to Mystere and participating in special shows. Currently Dr. Wingfield cares for Cirque artists when they are on tour in San Francisco, and she works with the San Francisco Ballet school and other local performing artists.
Dr. Wingfield see all types of athletic injuries, in all age groups, children to masters. Her patients are weekend warriors, active people, recreational to elite athletes, and dancers. She herself is an avid skier, cyclist, runner, and she practices yoga and pilates.
